Facts about Spay/Neuter

"My dog or cat is too young to be fixed."

FACT: Cats only need to be  2 pounds, which is typically between 8-12 weeks old.
Dogs can be as young as 8 weeks old.

"I don't want to fix my cat or dog too early. It's healthier to have at least one litter."

FACT: It's actually better for the pet's health NOT to have babies. It prevents many forms of cancer later in life, and improves behaviors such as roaming and agression.

"My dog or cat is pregnant so I have to wait."

FACT: Unless you have room and finances to take on a new litter of animals, getting your pet fixed now is always the best option. Cats typically have 4-8 kittens per litter, and dogs can have up to 10-12 puppies.
Our island is very full.
Pregnancy can also be dangerous, and risk the mom's life.

"My dog or cat is too young to be in heat, and if so, I can just keep them inside."

FACT: Cats can get pregnant as young as 4 months old.
Dogs can go into heat as early as 6 months.
Babies having babies. This is why it is so important to get them fixed as soon as possible.

An animal in heat will do ANYTHING to get out of your house or fence. Do not fool yourself that you can easily secure them. Roaming males will also travel miles to find an animal in heat.

Action 4 Animals Hawaii is a 501c(3).
