Helping Community Friends
Action 4 Animals Hawaii works closely with County of Hawaii Animal Control to save as many dogs as possible, with most of our intake coming directly from Animal Control rather than community surrenders. This section is for dogs needing re-homing.
Our goal is to help prevent dogs from entering the shelter system whenever possible.

Buddy
1 yr, 55 lbs, neutered, microchipped, & vaccinated
Rescued after Hurricane Lala, this sweet boy has made a wonderful recovery and is now healthy, happy, and ready for a home of his own! At approximately 1 year old, he is housebroken, well-mannered, and knows sit and stay by hand signal or voice command. He’s quiet, doesn’t bark, and gets along great with other animals and children.
His rescuers say he’s the dog they would keep if their circumstances allowed. Now, they’re hoping to find him the loving forever home he deserves. ❤️

Sunshine & Royal
Brown- girl, Black & brown- boy, mixed breed, 6 months old, neutered, microchipped, & vaccinated
SUNSHINE
• Female | ~6 months | ~30 lbs
• Copper-colored
• High-energy, affectionate & eager to please
• A true Velcro pup who loves her people
• Fearful of strangers, especially men, so she’ll need patience, structure and time to build confidence
ROYAL
• Male | ~6 months | ~25 lbs
• Black & brown
• Mellow, affectionate, sensitive & adorably clumsy
• A gentle boy who has overcome a serious injury and is now running, playing and enjoying life like any puppy should
Their story:
Sunshine and Royal were found abandoned and severely emaciated along Stainback Highway when they were only about 3–4 months old.
Royal had been hit by a car along with another puppy, who sadly did not survive. Royal suffered a serious neck injury and spent weeks in isolation receiving medication, syringe feedings and physical therapy. Thankfully, he made an incredible recovery and is now able to run, wrestle and play normally.
Sunshine has a slightly twisted muzzle and appears to have experienced trauma in her past. She is a sensitive girl who will need a patient, understanding family.
Together, they are best friends. They currently live with two adult male dogs and have been well socialized with other dogs. While they adore each other, they are also receptive to human guidance and have the potential to become incredibly loyal, loving family companions.
Both pups are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped.
These two deserve a home where they can finally feel safe, loved and secure — and where their new family understands that they need a little extra patience while they learn that the world can be a good place.
Sunshine and Royal are located in Pāhoa. A home visit and small rehoming fee are required for potential adopters.

Sweet, found dogs
Brown- girl, Black- boy, mixed breed, 6 months old, will be: neutered, microchipped, & vaccinated
These 2 puppies were found by a caring community member. They are looking for new homes. They are both friendly with other dogs. Not sure about cats. Black boy is the shy one of the two. He takes a little bit of time to warm up to strangers, but he is very sweet.

Beauford

Meet Beauford!
Referred to by his human friends as “Lover Boy” and “Mr. Cutie-Butt-Wiggles,” Beauford has that big love energy. Give him some affectionate scratches in the right spot and he will do a cute little dance for you. Mr. Beauford is a playful, loyal friend that LOVES his toys. He wants to play for five minutes and then have a nice nap on the cool floor. Beauford does good on a leash and is getting better every day. He will be on his best behavior for a tasty treat and is a quick learner that knows basic commands like sit, stay, and come. Beauford is house trained and will not pee in the house or chew on your things (so polite). This love bug is respectful of his cat friends and does well with children. He also does great in cars and is always excited to go on a ride. Mr. Beauford sleeps well every night in his crate and wakes up with a smile and a nice big stretch before his morning walk. He would be the perfect lifetime companion to a loving home.

Medical History: Beauford is undergoing treatment for heartworm. He is on heartworm preventatives and is not contagious. He will be heartworm negative by November 2026.

Koda
Male, Mixed Breed, Medium/large, will be neutered/vaxxed/microchipped
This very sweet and calm mannered dog wandered onto my property in an extremely emaciated condition. He looks like he has been on his own for a while scrounging for food so he had pieces of plastic bag in his poop that has now seemed to completely work itself out. He is learning to walk on a leash and progressing well. I am crate training him and he is able to stay in the crate overnight without accidents. He is playful with my other dogs big and small, and does very well around babies and small children. He is so calm and lays at your feet, knows sit, come, and stay commands. He also doesn't seem to mind cats, kittens, or chickens although he hasn't been off a cable around them. He LOVES to be around people so would do really well with someone who is home often. He doesn't bark. Unknown breed but looks like German Shepard, malimut, husky mix? He is likely a medium to large breed dog and currently needs to gain probably 10-15 pounds, he is eating and tolerating dry food well. He looks like a sweet brown bear to me.

Winnie

Chow/Golden Retriever mix
Winnie’s story goes back to the 2017 lava flow, when she was rescued and given a second chance at life. She recently lost her beloved owner and is now hoping to find another family to love her.
Winnie is a sweet, submissive girl who does well around other dogs. She would do best in a home without ducks or chickens.
She’s currently living at an animal sanctuary, but what she’d really love is a home of her own where she can settle in and be part of a family again.

Meet Phat Boi— and yes, he lives up to the name in the BEST way!
This lovable community dog is just over a year old and is looking for his forever home. Phat Boi is full of energy and personality — he loves to run, fetch, go on walks, and will absolutely try to be the one in charge… but he's a good listener when you redirect him!
He's all about the good stuff in life: belly rubs, cuddles, playtime, and FOOD. He will run back to you with that toy… he just might not hand it over. But what he will always give you is endless love.
